Job Title: Freelance Set Designer

Status: Temporary Part Time – One year position

Reports to: Head of Art

Job Overview:

St. Bernard’s School seeks a freelance set designer to create painted scenic panels for school plays.  The dimensions of the panels we currently use are 8 x 8 feet overall (two 4 x 8 feet panels taped together).

The ideal candidate will possess a professional background in theater design and be a proficient painter.  We seek a visionary designer with outstanding communication skills, excellent organizational skills, and an ability to meet all deadlines.

 

Responsibilities:

Provide preliminary set design sketches to the art department
Complete all scenic elements at an excellent level of finishing, following production schedules and deadlines
Arrange transport of all scenery to the school on a timely basis, maintaining communication each step of the way
Adhere to budgets and proper guidelines for purchases, receipts, and reimbursements
Clear and prompt communication

Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in theater design, theater education, or related disciplines
Minimum of three years professional or academic theater design experience
