Job Description

Job Title: Scenic Artist
Supervisor: Production Director

Full Time | Non-Exempt

Job Summary
Responsible for the painting of scenery and properties for all Omaha Theater Company productions.

Essential Job Duties
-Paint scenery for upcoming productions and interpret and reproduce designs provided by other staff or guest designers.
-Implement the design, which includes painting all scenery and properties.
-Assist in the construction of scenery and props.
-Meet deadlines on the build schedule and those pertaining to work area.
-Participate with all scene shop staff at all load-in and strikes.
-In cooperation with the Technical Director, perform maintenance and upkeep of all shop tools and equipment.
-Work flexible schedule depending on production needs.
-Supervise volunteers and part-time staff.
-Maintain a safe, clean and organized workspace.
-In cooperation with the Technical Director, ensure the safety of actors, crew and audience members regarding scenery, props, special effects and backstage spaces on the mainstage and in the Hitchcock.
-Assist with youth production coordination and Art of Theater Design Class
-Assist with scenic/prop needs for youth productions.

Other Job Duties
-Upon approval from the Technical Director, order necessary materials.
-Assist shop staff in cleaning, inventory, storage and organization of the entire area.
-Participate in spring and fall shop clean up tasks.
-Attend all necessary meetings, including weekly Scenography meeting, monthly all staff meetings.
-Perform related duties as assigned, within your scope of practice, as assigned by the Director of Production or Artistic Director.

Education, Training and Experience
-B.A. or B.F.A. in Theater or Technical Theater, or more than two years of professional experience.
-Demonstrated artistic ability.
-Working knowledge of a variety of scenic materials and their applications.

Skills and Abilities
-Ability to accurately interpret and reproduce designs.
-Basic carpentry skills.
-Time management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks and assignments.
-Ability to meet deadlines under pressure situations.
-Ability to communicate in writing and verbally.
-Ability to follow directions from directors and Technical Director.
-Ability to interact and communicate effectively with employees at all levels within the organization.
-Act as a representative of the company at all times, providing excellent customer service to members, patrons, vendors and staff.
-Maintain current certification in CPR/1st Aid.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions Environment
-Ability to stand or kneel for extended periods of time.
-Ability to work at heights of up to 70’.
-Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
-Must be able to lift at least 50lbs.
-Ability to drive full size pickup and straight box trucks.
