Job Title: Scenic Artist Intern

Department: Scenic Department/ Paint Shop

Reports to (Position): Scenic Charge Artist

SUMMARY: The Scenic Artist Intern will support the workload and tasks of the scenic art department under the supervision of the Scenic Charge and Assistant Scenic Charge. The position will coordinate with the Scenic Charge and Assistant Scenic Charge in the preparation, implementation, and maintenance of all scenic treatments for each production at Flat Rock Playhouse.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist in the completion and maintenance of all paint and scenic treatments as assigned by the Scenic Charge and Assistant Scenic Charge
• Supervise an apprentice crew as assigned by the Charge Artist
• Perform parking duties as assigned by Production Manager

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• Hold or be working towards Bachelors Degree in Theatrical Production: Design, Scenic Art, or Technology
• Or have comparable professional work experience
• At least one year of professional work experience preferred

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
• Proficient Skill in Color Mixing
• Knowledge of Faux Finish Techniques including but not limited to wood graining and marbling
• Experience with Texture Treatments
• Foam Carving
• Painting of Soft Goods including Scrims and Translucencies
• Be able to lift 50 lbs.
