The Contemporary American Theater Festival at Shepherd University is welcoming applications for the position of scenic artist intern.

CATF’s Scenic Art Department consists of a Festival Charge Artist, two Scenic Artists, and two Scenic Art Interns who produce scenery for the festival’s six productions. Scenic Art Interns work under the supervision of the Festival Charge and Scenic Artists to assist in executing scenic techniques and treatments for all productions.

Applicants should be able to lift and carry 50lbs, comfortable working on ladders and lifts up to 20’ tall, have a basic knowledge of common theatrical painting techniques and should be positive, flexible, willing to learn, and should be equally comfortable with teamwork and self-directed projects. Working knowledge of faux finishes, 3D texturing and prep work is prefered, but not required.

Position is seasonal, from late May to early August. All staff and interns are provided free air conditioned housing within walking distance of the theaters and workspaces (also air conditioned,) 1-2 meals per day during tech, and free use of University gym, pool, and laundry facilities.
