Infinite Scenic is growing and adding a new scenic charge artist to our NJ team.

The scenic charge artist functions the main point-of-contact for Infinite Scenic’s backdrop and in-house projects, as well as in an advisory capacity alongside Infinite’s project coordinators during the estimation stage of prospective projects. The Scenic Charge Artist reports to the senior project manager and also directs and supervises the scenic artists working in the shop as well as the intern and apprentice program. The Scenic Charge Artist will be responsible for the following:

Planning projects in the office include setting and adjusting project schedules for any project needing shop time or resources.
Managing and booking labor schedules for shop projects
Coordinating with project coordinators to proof shop project estimates, including reviewing renderings, recommending materials and methods to use in estimates
Speccing and requesting supplies for projects and for general shop inventory while staying on budget and meeting deadlines.
Preparation of daily checklists and milestones for the crew and prepare deck layouts and process sheets.
As needed, communicate with designers to understand project parameters and aesthetic goals
Determining the schedule for projects that occur in the shop and works with the project coordinator to set realistic timelines and communicate any hurdles that affect the schedule set in place.
Executing or overseeing execution of all paint samples for in-shop projects
Overseeing shop floor staff to make sure inventories of supplies are fully stocked at all times, and are organized and ready for kit packs or incoming projects
Maintaining shop supplies, equipment, and fixtures, and recommending and executing organizational and structural improvements to shop
Anticipating strains on shop resources in advance of rush seasons or large on-site kit packs
Setting and maintaining shop safety standards

This is a 40 hour/week job with some anticipated longer days, especially during our rush times from mid-January through mid-February, and early August through mid September yearly. Occasionally, a project will need attention on a weekend or evening, and the right person for this job must be ready to answer the phone after hours. The majority of the work will be in the East Orange, NJ office, candidate must be available to travel between NY and NJ. This position is eligible for full health benefits (medical/dental/vision/life), vacation, sick leave, and paid professional development time. Salary negotiable based on experience. Start date is flexible.

Candidate must have a minimum of five years of scenic art experience as well as two years of leadership experience. Technical experience working with hard and soft scenery as well as decor, event work including fashion events is a must. Health and safety training with materials as well as tools normally found in a scene shop. Flame Retardancy Certificate of Fitness preferred. Position requires manual dexterity to handle artistic tools, frequent lifting/pushing/pulling objects up to 30 lbs., rarely lifting/pushing/pulling objects up to 100 lbs. (with assistance).
