Description: The Properties and Scenic Artist is responsible for acquisition and construction of properties including furniture, hand props, and practical elements for six operas and three ballets produced annually by Indiana University Opera and Ballet Theater. This position works closely with professional stage directors and scenic designers to advise and accommodate their artistic vision for each production. This position has decision-making responsibilities in achieving desired results as conceived by the stage director and designers.

The Properties and Scenic Artist will: maintain a budget as outlined by the Executive Director of Production and Director of Paint and Props; supervise and instruct hourly/student personnel in the paint and props shops; update files to maintain accurate records; maintain shop, storage facilities, and an extensive props inventory; sew all soft goods including prop items, drops, floor cloths, and other scenic elements; assist with scenic painting and set dressing for each production; attend staff and production meetings; and meet daily with stage management to ensure props, furniture, and personnel are prepared for rehearsals and performances.
