Overview
Position Summary:
We are seeking Scenic Artists to be based in our Bridgeport, CT location. Individuals for consideration may specialize in one or more of the following: painting, faux finishing, sculpting, carving, theme painting, and automotive spraying. Scenic Artists will take daily direction under Charge Scenic and Art Department Manager, and will follow company safety guidelines.
Job Type: As Needed/Project Based – Project-based position, weekly hours fluctuate based on project needs.
Start Date: Rolling/ASAP
End Date: End of Project/As Needed
Duties & Expectations:
- Understanding of scenic paint and finishing
- Understanding of theatrical/theme paint brands, artist materials, traditional and non-traditional artist tools (and the ability to learn new tools and materials)
- Understanding of prepping multiple substrates (wood, metal, fiberglass)
- Ability to work closely with others
- Work with other artists to match techniques across all scenic elements for cohesiveness
- Interact with various departments, including overlapping on scenic elements
- Maintains a clean, safe, and efficient work area
- Proper use of all tools and safety equipment
- Proper handling, storage, and disposal of all chemical products
- Awareness of others working in the same area
- Working with efficiency and care to complete all scenic units to a high standard within the timeframe provided by the Charge Scenic and Art Department Manager
- Follow written and verbal direction daily from Charge Scenic and Art Department Manager
Skills & Attributes:
- Color mixing and matching
- Knowledge and use of HVLP spray guns (not required)
- Sculpting and texturing of various materials such as foam and sculptable epoxy (not required)
- Aptitude for learning and application of newly acquired skill set
- Self-motivated and focused
- Good time management
Qualifications:
- Portfolio and work history for consideration
- 2 years of scenic artist experience or apprentice
- Advanced knowledge in paint and/or bodywork (cutting in trim, rolling, stirring paint etc.)
- High School, Vocational or technical school training required
- BFA Fine Arts/ equivalent preferred but not required
Physical Demands:
- Lifting, carrying, standing, kneeling, balancing, working from ladders and scaffolding.
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and prepared to work in factory conditions
- Use of appropriate PPE and/or specific precautions
Starting rate $25/hr (commensurate with experience), overtime after 40 hours
