JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT SCENIC CHARGE
DEPARTMENT: PRODUCTION
REPORTS TO: SCENIC CHARGE

ABOUT THE POSITION
The Assistant Scenic Charge is responsible for assisting in the safe and timely execution and completion of all scenic elements and props for Alabama Shakespeare Festival’s productions in collaboration with and under the direction of the Scenic Charge Artist. This includes assisting in daily planning, maintaining shop organization, helping to supervise any scenic art staff, apprentice and/or over hire labor.

Primary Responsibilities Include:
• Assist in the executing the painting, texturing, carving and/or sculpting of all scenic elements and props as directed by Scenic Charge
• Assist in the creation of samples to be sent to designer
• Assist in the creation of daily work schedules and maintaining work flow
• Assist in supervising any additional scenic art staff, overhire, and/or apprentices
• Assist in the documentation of processes and colors
• Assist in maintaining and organizing tools and work space
• Assist in tracking shop inventory
• Assist in creating touch-up kits for each show and maintaining finishes during the run of shows
• Regularly and effectively communicate with Scenic Charge and other personnel as necessary
Suggested Qualifications:
• Ability to read and interpret elevations
• Ability to work independently or as a part of a team
• Ability to take direction
• Ability to mix and match colors
• Knowledge and experience with scenic art techniques including, but not limited to, faux finishing, texturing, distressing, cartooning, drop layout and painting, carving and sculpting
• Experience using HVLP sprayers
• Effective time management and organizational skills
• Effective communication skills
• Critical and creative thinking and problem solving skills

Pay Range – $16.25-18.25 an hour (overtime eligible)
