The Scenic Artist (Overhire) assists the Scenic Charge Artist on the carving, texturing, painting and finishing of scenery for the Humana Festival of New American Plays.
The Essential Functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
Paint and texture scenery based off of appropriate samples and process sheets.
Mix appropriate textures and colors as necessary.
Alongside Charge, attend notes sessions before tech rehearsals and during breaks if necessary.
Assist the Charge in the maintenance of shop stock, tools, and supplies.
Assist the Charge in maintaining a clean work environment.
Follow Safe practices and procedures in the work space.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Strong knowledge of theatrical painting techniques and products.
Strong background in textures and faux finishes.
Strong Color matching ability.
Ability to prioritize and communicate effectively with the Charge, other members of the Scenic Department, and the Prop Department.
Strong multitasking and Organizational Skills.
Ability to lift, push, pull or otherwise maneuver up to 70 lbs repeatedly, either alone or with assistance.
Comfortable working on ladders, mechanical lifts or other high places.
Ability to comfortable work in confined spaces.
Ability to squat, crawl, walk, crouch, and kneel.
Ability to work as a team member and maintain a positive attitude in times of stress.
Two (2) years professional experience as a Scenic Artist or educational equivalent.
Must work a flexible work schedule which includes some nights and weekends.
BFA in scenic design/painting or professional experience equivalent.
Previous experience in a theatrical scene/paint shop.
Basic Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Autocad, Microsoft Office Suite.
Compensation is $12.50 an hour and housing is provided. This position does not offer health benefits and paid time off but the successful candidate will have access to theatre tickets and discounted parking.
