Overview

Responsible for safely and effectively realizing the scenic designer’s vision all shows in the season. Establish a paint calendar and budget for each show; responsible for all paint and scenic treatments; responsible for season paint budgets and purchasing; oversee all painting activities for each production; paint all shows; oversee paint shop and train all paint crew members; interpret technical drawings and paint elevations; ensure all painting is complete prior to 1st tech; set safety protocols for paint shop and personnel and ensure they are followed; protect the theatre structures and finishes in all venues – ensuring paint does not spill or damage theatre walls and facade; maintain the safety, order, and cleanliness of all paint areas; attend all tech and dress rehearsals and overseeing any required changes; maintain or assign maintenance of the quality of painting on sets following load-ins and changeovers; properly store, clean and dispose of all used paint materials and chemicals.

Qualified applications must have an extensive knowledge and experience in scenic painting techniques and surface treatments including carving, texturing, ageing & distressing, faux painting, etc.; excellent drawing and painting ability; solid command of color theory and paint mixing; excellent interpersonal and communications skills; good problem solving skills; a collaborative attitude; reliable and punctual; good organizational skills; excellent time management skills; ability to supervise and coordinate the activities of groups of people toward a common purpose; a strong willingness to learn; a calm confident presence during chaotic production periods; a positive, collaborative attitude; self-motivated with a strong team orientation; ability to multi-task and work well under pressure; ability to manage shifting and competing priorities; exercise good judgment and discretion; ability to work productively and meet deadlines in an environment of change, creative process and rigorous time management; a willingness to work hard as part of a team.  Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle preferred-Lyric Rep operates in multiple venues.  This position is seasonal full time with on-site residency required.

Salary Information: $3000.00 – paid as seasonal employee through Utah State University

Lyric Rep requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and follows AEA protocols regarding weekly COVID testing and mask wearing. There is no cost to the employee for testing. State law does not allow us to require patrons to wear masks, but it is strongly encouraged.
