Join a team of hardworking staff members who take pride in the artistic quality of their work. Virginia Repertory Theatre is seeking a scenic paint charge to join our full-time staff. We are Central Virginia’s largest nonprofit, professional theatre company, with a budget of $5 million, four distinct venues, an educational touring arm, and an annual audience of 550,000. Virginia Rep creates professional productions of the great comedies, dramas and musicals – past, present and future. Responsibilities:
Maintain the paint inventory for the theatre throughout the season.
Scenic charge on all Signature, Tour and Children’s season productions (approximately 10 productions) and assist on Tavern season productions when needed (approximately 4 productions).
Work with designers to create samples and implement designs based on paint elevations delivered on Signature, Tour and Children’s season productions and assist on Tavern season productions when needed.
Attend production meetings.
Communicate with designers and directors to make sure that needs are met.
Create and deliver touch up kits to stage management opening night.
Read performance reports and attend to touch ups as needed.
Provide necessary samples to designers and production team as needed throughout the production process
Supervise and mentor the Scenic art interns and assistants as staffed.
Assist in prop paint as needed in the development of projects.
Assist in paint of outside events related to Virginia Rep as needed.

Strong Mixing and blending skills
Ability to work from designer elevations

BA or BFA in technical theatre, properties design, or equivalent work experience

This position is eligible for annual and sick leave, participation in company health, life, disability, and dental insurance plans, as well as our 403(b) retirement plan. Starting annual salary is $30K negotiable, based on experience. Virginia Repertory Theatre is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
