Come Join The Palace Theatre’s Professional Season of Concerts, and Performances! We produce 7-8 full scale musicals and a wide variety of youth theatre, musical acts and professional performances throughout our season. The technical department is seeking to add a scenic artist to its new and developing scene shop facilities located a few blocks from the performance venue in downtown Manchester.

The scenic artists primary responsibility is to work under the direction of the Charge Artist and Scenic Designer to develop paint treatments and paint all set and some prop pieces for all Palace Professional Theatre performances. Specific Responsibilities include:

Working with Scenic Charge Artist and Scenic Designer to interpret drawings, collaborate on plans, and participate in the development of scenic treatments, their application, touch ups and Load In of the set during the Tech Week.
Candidates should have a moderate to advanced skill set in painting large surfaces quickly and efficiently
Ability to read scale and pencil sketch drawings
Creative thinking for how to accomplish artistic designs
Ability To Lift 50 Pounds
Specialized Skills including foam carving, crafts and unique treatment of various surfaces commonly used in theater
Aid with Load In, Load Out for all shows, touch up of paint during run of shows
Assist with the continued setup and layout of our new Scenic Art Facilities
Help with some general artistic and crafty projects, including fabric, props, decoration

Qualifications for Scenic Artist
Ability To Multi-Task, Stay Calm Under Pressure
Use of Common Stage Etiquette and Terminology, or Willingness to Learn and Use
Able To Work Varied Hours As Needed
Positive Attitude with A Mind For Leadership
Use of Personal Man Lifts/Genie Lifts, Variety of Simple Power Tools, Heat Guns, etc
Attention to Detail and Promptness
Repertoire of Scenic Paint Treatments, Faux, Cartooning, Realistic
Calm During High Stress Projects and Tight Deadlines
Willingness to Learn From Mistakes and Continue Development
